Dissemination and Mechanism for the MCR-1 Colistin Resistance
Polymyxins are the last line of defense against lethal infections caused by multidrug resistant Gram-negative pathogens. Very recently, the use of polymyxins has been greatly challenged by the emergence of the plasmid-borne mobile colistin resistance gene (mcr-1). However, the mechanistic aspects of the MCR-1 colistin resistance are still poorly understood. Here we report the comparative genomi...
متن کاملDeciphering MCR-2 Colistin Resistance
Antibiotic resistance is a prevalent problem in public health worldwide. In general, the carbapenem β-lactam antibiotics are considered a final resort against lethal infections by multidrug-resistant bacteria. Colistin is a cationic polypeptide antibiotic and acts as the last line of defense for treatment of carbapenem-resistant bacteria. Very recently, a new plasmid-borne colistin resistance g...

متن کاملAquaculture and mcr Colistin Resistance Determinants
We read with great interest the article in mBio regarding the discovery of a third colistin resistance determinant, mcr-3, in plasmid pWJ1 isolated from porcine Escherichia coli in China (1). This discovery and the subsequently reported discovery of a fourth colistin resistance determinant, mcr-4 (2), provide further support for our hypothesis that the mcr determinants (phosphoethanolamine tran...
متن کاملmcr-1 Colistin Resistance in ESBL-Producing Klebsiella pneumoniae, France
We report intestinal carriage of an extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strain with high-level resistance to colistin (MIC 24 mg/L) in a patient in France who had been hospitalized for fungal meningitis. The strain had the mcr-1 plasmid gene and an inactivated mgrB gene, which are associated with colistin resistance.
